The Gables small holding offers excellent equine facilities. Our ever popular 'Equine Escapes' deal is an all-inclusive package for small groups of up to 6 people. You simply arrive with your horse (and alcohol) and spend a few days enjoying locally sourced fabulous food, cooked from scratch and served around a friendly dining table.
Riders bringing their own horses have use of our safe, well sheltered paddocks for turnout, aswell as a secure tack room and ample parking. Some stabling is available by prior arrangement. We have 3 large fields available for 6 guest horses which can easily be divided with electric fencing if necessary. The quality of grazing is rarely lush and most horses live out happily for the duration of their stay.
As riders ourselves, we can tell you that Halkyn Mountain is a great place to ride. There's something for everyone - from gentle hacks on safe, well established tracks to 'full on' galloping over open country with complete freedom from traffic. And for those riders who may be apprehensive about hacking out in an unknown area, we can confidently assure you that the mountain is very easy to navigate. You do not need to be skilled in map reading or orienteering. We can offer guided rides (time permitting) or provide you with simple maps of local hacking routes but with simple, easy to spot landmarks, riding here is very straightforward and no one has managed to get lost so far! If you're planning to stay longer there's plenty more riding in the local area. There's Talacre beach where you can access 5 miles of sandy beach and join the BHS North to South Bridleway. Mostyn Farm Ride, with its XC jumps and interesting trails through fields and woodland, is a short drive away and there are many local Fun Rides running across the year, including those organised by the Flint and Denbigh Hunt.
For those of you who are closer or who maybe just want a 'taster' experience, we also offer 'Day Rides'. Coffee and cake on arrival. Secure parking and use of our facilities with a simple map and information on the mountain, followed by a sumptuous two course Lunch while your horses graze in our field. Please contact us directly to book this to avoid any disappointment, especially during peak times!
